Summer Solstice
Written a long time ago
There’s the bluejay,
obscuring itself in the limbs of the oak
and then the breeze comes
filled with sunshine
settling on my skin
settling on my thoughts
as I sit
on a rooftop
by the river side
city sounds passing
sharing smokes and hopes.
There will be time,
time for hawks and bluejays
and passing corn whiskey
in that intimate way
that sharing a bottle can bring
when it’s the longest day of the year
and the first day of the beginning
of the canvas of the sky.
